Under general direction is responsible for design and construction of city parks, recreation facilities, and other landscaping projects.

Representative Duties:
Layout, designs, and makes detailed plans for all phases of park construction, including automatic irrigation systems, landscaping, playgrounds, buildings and recreation facilities. Calculates estimates on materials, makes analyses of varied park facilities to determine proper layout and design, prepares detailed drawings and specifications, directs draftsmen in the preparation of final plans and maps. Prepares preliminary design and estimates for determining budgetary needs for construction and maintenance activities; prepares detailed cost estimates for new construction and rehabilitation projects for parks, structures, and recreation facilities, water and sewer systems, and other related projects. Reviews plans, specifications, and construction for conformance to approved standards; writes reports in connection with various park projects; prepares applications for State, Federal and other funding; confers with department heads and other officials regarding design and alterations of new and existing facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Training and Experience:
Graduation from college with major work in landscape architecture or architecture with one year experience in landscape design. Landscape design experience may be substituted for lack of a degree on a two to one basis. Licensing as a Landscape Architect in the State of California is desirable.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, methods, materials and practices of landscape architecture including design, site planning, construction and maintenance; knowledge of plants; knowledge of local horticulture requirements, automatic irrigation systems; ability to adapt landscape projects to space limitations; ability to prepare landscape architectural plans and specifications and to direct and coordinate the design, construction and maintenance of landscape projects with officials; ability to prepare grading plans, estimate cuts and fills, drainage plans; ability to write concise reports and to maintain effective working relationships with other city divisions, departments, contractors, and the public.

Licenses or Certificates:
Possession of a valid Class 3 California driver's license.
