This position is posted at the Journey Competency level. If no applicants meet the required competency level of the position, then management may consider contributing level applicants. For current state employment/re-employment, this position is salary equivalent to salary grade 67.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Technical Knowledge: Education or experience developing and/or interpreting, conducting or administering educational program necessary to interpret ecological processes.
Protection & Safety: Prior to employment, candidates are required to have successful results in physical and psychological examinations to include drug testing and background investigation as required by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.
Program Management: Ability to plan and organize daily activities to meet program objectives. Ability to follow policy and procedures in response to various situations and problems.
Communication: Oral and written skills necessary to perform duties and ability to articulate observations while on patrol and during investigations. Ability to present information to individuals or groups; ability to deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the Park.
Applicant must possess and maintain a valid NC driver's license and meet DENR Fleet Safety Policy guidelines.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum requirements: High school diploma or equivalency. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.
Management preferences: Bachelor’s degree with a major in natural sciences or parks and recreation or closely related coursework in natural resources; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
