Incumbents in this classification are responsible for monitoring the safety of parks and/or recreational facilities and providing customer service to patrons.
Duties include patrolling park facilities, opening and securing facilities, enforcing park rules and regulations, providing customer service to park patrons, maintaining the parks, picking up litter, cleaning facilities, operating the carousel, ensuring safety of visitors, and escorting staff or patrons. Work is performed with moderate supervision.
Position requires an extensive amount of standing, walking, (or bicycling) outdoors, in all weather conditions, and involves continuous interaction with the public.
Incumbents in this position will also be responsible for set up, clean up, and maintaining areas before, during, and after special events.
Incumbents are required to identify and report problems that cannot be corrected immediately.
Work Location: Coolidge Park; Patrol various City Parks and areas as needed.
Work Hours: Hours generally fall between 2:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., and all Park Rangers work all three week-end shifts (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

Monitors parks to ensure the safety and security of visitors.
Ensures the security of facilities after business hours which includes monitoring facilities and ensuring doors are locked and secured.
Ensures walking areas, bridges and/or grounds are free from skateboarders, bicyclists, pets, motorized vehicles and/or other potentially hazardous activities.
Performs traffic control on bridges.
Provides customer service to park patrons.
Clean facilities, remove debris and litter from the grounds, and identify and report hazards and graffiti.
Operate the Carousel.
Uses, carries and answers radio and electronic devices as determined by the assigned job duties and the department head.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Customer Service experience is strongly preferred.
Experienced bike riding skills are preferred for patrol.
Must be willing to work in all types of weather; temperatures may vary from extremely hot in the summer to very cool or cold in the winter, parks are open rain or shine.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid Tennessee Driver's License.
Ability to obtain a Special Police Commission unarmed.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of customer service principles and safe work practices.
Skill in providing customer service; monitoring areas for potentially hazardous situations and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and those contacted in the course of the work.
Positions in this class typically require stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
