JOB SUMMARY: To determine the presence of blade cracks or buckles on WTG with V2 Blades by visual and aural inspection.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspections will be conducted on a 48 hour rotation basis, requiring a 100% inspection of V2 Blades as described below.
Inspectors will use Form S88.US.05.03 to record observations made during the inspection. A separate form will be completed for each WTG inspected. If no blade cracks are found during the inspection, the form must have
the following information as a minimum: Site Name, WTG #, Date of inspection, Inspector Name and Signature. Completed forms will be maintained at the site and will be available for inspection by customers and SWECO managers.
WTG is shut down using a Manual Soft Stop – executed remotely from the Site Office or downtower with a PC. Communication between the Site Office and Inspector will be confirmed and maintained if a Remote “Manual Soft Stop” is used.
With the WTG stopped, observe each blade for cracks and/or buckles. The observations must be made using binoculars ( > 7x50 power) while standing 50 – 75 feet from the base of the tower. Each blade must be observed from all sides along its entire length, but with particular attention to the area from the blade root to approximately 10 meters from the root.
During the course of the inspection, take note of any vortex generators on the ground.
If the inspector detects any sign of a blade crack or buckle, the WTG will be taken off line immediately. Notify the site manager and complete the Form S88.US.05.03 to document the blade crack thoroughly. All information on the form must be completed. If no Blade Cracks are detected, the inspector may request a restart of the WTG.
During the restart and operation of the WTG, the inspector will listen for mechanical/operating sounds such as whistling, knocking or snapping sounds as each blade passes the tower.
If the inspector detects any sign of a blade crack or buckle during the aural inspection, the WTG will be taken off line immediately. Notify the site manager and complete the Form S88.US.05.03 to document the blade crack thoroughly. If no signs of a blade crack are detected during the aural inspection, the WTG may be returned to normal service.
Inspector must be able to work unsupervised and follow instructions.
