Pat. Svcs. Specialist-
Deliver excellent patient centered service while expediting the patient access experience. Provide financial counseling to all patient and/or guarantors (inpatient, outpatient and emergency). Establishes and/or confirms account numbers and/or medical record numbers for accurate patient identification and billing. Obtains and enters demographic and financial data relative to each account. Conducts detailed financial screening and analysis. Positively contributes to the revenue cycle and financial success of the hospital by: collecting patient payments via pegboard or electronically; making patent financial arrangements; obtaining financial sponsorship and/or charity care for those patients who qualify. As necessary will place and/or releases physician orders in the hospital computer system. Complies with all Corporate, State and Federal regulations by ensuring all necessary forms are signed and in document imaging. Verifies insurance, obtains necessary authorization, pre-certification and notification per individual payor guidelines. Will perform Advance beneficiary screening, ensuring medical necessity, and issue notice for all Medicare outpatients to ensure compliance with Medicare diagnosis guidelines and correct billing. Is responsible for front office desk check-in and check-out responsibilities and functions in applicable ancillary areas, including but not limited to, arriving patients, possible rescheduling of patients and ensure exceptional patient flow; general clerical duties.
Position Minimum Requirements
Bachelors Degree; or Associate Degree with two (2) years relevant experience required. High school diploma or equivalent, with four (4) years relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement. An additional two (2) to four (4) years clerical/customer service experience strongly preferred—ideally in a health care or hospitality-related industry working with a concierge-style service model. One (1) year experience with patient registration, billing, third party payors, and/or hospital operations strongly preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills. Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical or unusual situations. Must be comfortable discussing financial matters with patients in a professional manner. Must be able to multi-task effectively, maintaining a high standard of patient focus while making generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria; recognize and react to changing priorities, and make timely and accurate judgment decisions. A working knowledge of medical and insurance terminology is preferred. Must be able to demonstrate exceptional verbal, analytical and written communication skills.
