Actively seek out new inventions, such as sitting in on project design reviews, and planning and chairing "brain-storming" sessions for the development of broad patentable concepts.
Assist the Patent Manager in preparing for the Patent Review Meeting. This includes distributing copies of the disclosures to be reviewed to all participants for their review before the meeting, make filing recommendations, keep minutes, and take the actions recommended.
Promptly direct disclosures to outside counsel for writing. Ensure that all applications are reviewed with the inventors prior to filing, and facilitate communication between the outside counsel and the inventors. Ensure final drafts are reviewed by the Patent Manager prior to filing. In addition, assist outside counsel, as needed, in the preparation of responses to Office Actions from the U.S. and Foreign Patent Offices.
Extensively use and review data in the Patent Database.
Maintain relevant files on all patent applications and invention disclosures.
Monitor issued patents for possible infringement, such as timely reviewing of the Derwent alerting service.
Assist the Patent Counsel in ensuring that management's prior approval is obtained and appropriate agreements are in place before the Client's technology is disclosed and before outside technology is brought into the company.
Assist with reviews of Engineering projects as part of the Engineering Project Management Process, identifying any potential patent issues.
Assist our client Legal Dept. and outside attorneys as needed for patent litigation activities.
Support Product Line & Engineering Vice Presidents and Line Management regarding patent issues vis-à-vis strategic planning.
Work assignments to be carried out to the highest quality level.
Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.

Comprehensive knowledge of patent application requirements.
Knowledge of patent prosecution methodologies and strategies applicable to the US and overseas (particularly Europe, Canada).

BS degree in Engineering
5-10 years relevant Engineering experience
