The Pathology Assistant (PA) will perform gross description and dissection of complex and simple human surgical specimens
under the general direction of a pathologist
. The PA will d
ictate gross findings on selected specimen using appropriate terminology; and refer tissue sections for microscopic review by the pathologist.
The PA is responsible for o
btaining the patient’s clinical history as needed, and
maintaining and coordinating specimens and records for specialized procedures using appropriate protocols.
The PA will c
onfer with pathologists to identify the special techniques and procedures necessary for diagnosis, (e.g., histochemical, immunoflurescense, cultures, smears, etc.) The PA also p
erforms specialized procedures, such as frozen sections and decalcification.
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of one year experience plus certification as a Pathologist's Assistant or certification eligible
or equivalent required.
Master's degree and Membership in the American Association of Pathologist's Assistants preferre
Previous experience with grossing human tissue samples from surgical procedures required.
