Under the direction of the department supervisor, handle insurance billing functions of Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS). Responsible for submission of all insurance claims, aging of insurance claims, collection and follow-up of outstanding claims, research and account audits related to billing. Provide administrative support to the various clinic areas throughout SHCS. Responsibility includes scheduling appointment's, verifying patient eligibility, collecting and posting of patient payments, follow-up on outside referrals, scanning of medical record documents to patient records and answering questions about available services offered at SHCS.
-Work at a desk for extended periods of time viewing a CRT or computer screen.
-This position is subject to completion of a Pre-Placement Medical Examination provided by Occupational Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant.
-Employee shall participate in required preventive medical and medical monitoring programs, which may include blood tests, immunizations, TB screening, Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogen training, etc., and are provided to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
-Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infection diseases are present.
-Position requires signing a statement of understanding of the Dependent Adult/Elder Abuse Reporting Requirement.
-Constant patient and staff traffic with telephones ringing, simultaneous conversations, and frequent interruptions.
Background Check Required:
This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity checks.
-Experience with medical office functions and laws/regulations governing confidentiality of patient records.
-Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding.
-Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
-Knowledge of medical billing/reimbursement requirements and procedures; health insurance plans, medical terminology procedures, and health insurance industry standards; insurance plans and ability to interpret insurance language.
-Customer service experience.
-Experience working independently and as a team, without direct supervision, exercising independent judgment and decision-making.
-Experience working with Practice Management Database and/or Electronic Medical Record system (Point N Click).
-Knowledge of medical record scanning.
-Experience with analyzing and interpreting payment reports, verifying accuracy of payments, identifying reasons for denial and pursuing appeals.
-Experience using analytical skills, assessing account balances and making determination on further action.
-Experience with fee schedules, RVS, CPT and ICD-9 codes.
-Experience with computer applications including computerized databases, student information system (BANNER preferred), practice management system, and accounting systems (DaFIS preferred).
-Writing skills to compose letters and written reports; keyboarding skills to type forms.
-Experience in a position using organizational skills to prioritize daily/monthly workload.
