Summary of Position

Brings unity and teamwork to two neighboring departments by supporting essential functions of each.

Supports occupational medicine program through patient data collection for physicals and injured worker care.

Performs laboratory screenings, vital signs, pain rating, DOT and Non-DOT chain of custody urine drug screen (UDS) collection, breath alcohol testing (BAT), pulmonary function testing (PFT), EKG, respiratory fit testing, audio testing, and lifting screenings.

Maintains an organizational system to aid in the smooth flow of patients in Urgent Care, between Urgent Care and other departments within the building and hospital, and between Urgent Care and physician offices and pharmacies in the area.

This includes following established procedures, standards of care, regulatory requirements, and the staffing and coordination of incoming and outgoing telephone communications relating to direct patient care.

Provides basic direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

All care is provided in compliance with and according to departmental policy, which includes participating in data collection to assist in the assessment of patient and family needs, and communicates with the health care team, as appropriate.


Primary Job Responsibilities

Performs health data collection and testing for pre-employment, annual and client specific physicals (i.e. 19A, DOT, Respirator, Firefighter and HAZWOPER, Asbestos, etc). Includes hearing tests, visual acuity, urine dipstick, PFT, EKG, lifting screening, respirator FIT testing and laboratory blood collection as well as documentation of vital signs, height, weight, medications, allergies and history.

Collects health data for scheduled patients.

Data collection includes vital signs, pain rating and brief patient history (date of injury, location of injury, current medications and allergies).

Collect chain of custody non-DOT and DOT (pre-employment, random, post accident, post injury, reasonable suspicion, follow-up) urine drug screens error free.

Performs non-DOT and DOT BAT (pre-employment, random, post accident, post injury, reasonable suspicion, follow-up) urine drug screens error free.

Completes unit and age specific based competencies per JCAHO requirements and hospital policy.

Performs off-site data collection and testing related to UDS and BAT firefighter physicals and respirator physicals.

Participates in health fairs and blood pressure screenings.

Practices appropriate hand washing techniques, adheres to universal precautions, infection control, and isolation procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique.

Gathers laboratory screening reports and provides them for physician review in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Computer skills and working knowledge of programs preferred. Previous emergency department, nursing school student, CNA preferred and/or equivalent experience.

Prior medical office experience beneficial.

Medical terminology preferred.

Must obtain BLS certification within six months of hire as able to be scheduled.

Must possess above average typing skills and ability to use information systems.
