A non-licensed healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health Systems is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients.
Required: High School education or equivalent. Required to meet one of the following: Completed Certified Nursing Assistant course and passed certification exam, Completed First Responder Course, Completed EMT program, Nursing student having completed Fundamentals of Nursing, Completed Medical Assistant Program, Pre-Med student, Military Corpsman, or Completed Surgical Tech program. Any of these may apply and work in a Patient Care Tech position, but must function within the guidelines, skills, and pay grade outlined for the Patient Care Tech.
Those who were employed as a Patient Care Tech prior to 3-1-2004 and do not have the above educational requirements will be grandfathered in as a Patient Care Tech. He/She must successfully complete an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and pass a written exam.
Preferred: Hospital experience preferred

Department Position Summary:
The tech must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information. To identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervision or by direct observation in a daily lab or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self-assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
The tech must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the CCU unit. The tech must demonstrate knowledge to interpret and respond appropriately to the identified information. The tech must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in policies and procedures. A tech must demonstrate knowledge skills such as assisting with procedures, performing vital signs, assisting patients with ADL, transport, ambulation and eating. Knowledge of equipment used for patient and ability to communicate well with others. The CCU tech will provide care as needed per described unit's policies and procedures.
