Job Summary:
Under general supervision of a Registered Nurse, renders nursing care to patients in cooperation with the medical staff and in accordance with the objectives, philosophies and policies of the Department of Nursing and Winter Haven Hospital, Inc for more than 50% of work time. Provides clerical support by assisting with Health Unit Coordinator functions by anticipating and coordinating the needs of the unit. May also transport supplies, medications and/or specimens. Acts as a liaison to patients, families, physicians, nursing staff and other departments. Knowledge & Skills Required:
Basic knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology and accepted abbreviations
Knowledge of basic patient care procedures
Successful completion of competencies in at least three of the following four areas: basic arrhythmias/monitor watching, phlebotomy, administering EKGs and/or requirements of WHH Health Unit Coordinator

Education & Experience Required:
Completion of an approved Patient Care Tech Program or nursing assistant with additional training as outlined in the Winter Haven Hospital Nursing Care Tech Program requirements

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration Required:
Current BLS/Healthcare Provider
Current Florida certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician license

Physical Demands for Essential Functions of the Job:
Ability to assist with lifting, positioning and transporting patients of varying weights up to 500 lbs
Ability to bend and stoop frequently during each workday
Ability to walk and stand more than eighty percent of work time
Ability to wear respirator and other protective clothing/equipment in exposure situations and according to unit specific protocols
