Serves as a liaison between patients, families, visitors and the emergency department, hospital and medical staff
The following qualifications are the minimum necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING: Associates Degree required. Healthcare-related coursework preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience in a patient/family representative position in hospital setting preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Good communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary to interact with patients, families, physicians, visitors, and staff. Knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)’ age. Ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs. Skill to handle sensitive situations with consideration to confidentiality and respect. Capability to deal with persons in crisis while remaining calm and professional. Knowledge of EMTALA/TJC and other compliance standards. Knowledge of appropriate medical record documentation guidelines. Ability to secure and maintain state notary public designation as needed. Accepts responsibility for own professional growth and development.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS PREFERRED: Familiar with medical terminology and health care services. Work Schedule
