Job Responsibilities

Under the supervision of Drs. Wells and Barnes, a lay patient navigator will contribute significantly to the design, revision, and finalization of a Virtual Patient Educator, which is a computer application to educate Spanish speaking women about cervical cancer. This position is located in Dover, Florida, and the incumbent must perform the duties required on site. Phase 1 - 50% Provide insight into the phrasing and delivery of cervical cancer and HPV education. Assist with the drafting of the script and other aspects of the content of the VPE. Review all iterations of the VPE and making suggestions for improvement of the content and messages. Assist with usability testing and learner verification interviews by providing patients with instructions in the use of the VPE. b)During Phase 2 - 50% Provide access enhancing patient navigation services to all participants. Call patients to schedule, reschedule, and remind them of appointments and will facilitate communication between patients and their health care providers. Introduce the VPE and facilitate its use for participants who are randomized to patient navigation plus VPE. Collaborate closely with the patient's health care providers; closely track care provided, and document care received elsewhere in the CMMS medical record; work to overcome personal, logistic, and health system barriers to keeping appointments for physical examinations and procedures; and track pathology reports. Contribute to all study presentations and manuscripts.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of sufficient upper division coursework to successfully perform the required duties of the position, or equivalent of two years full time progressively responsible related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Speak and write fluently in both Spanish and English Use a computer with standard Microsoft office programs (Word, Access) Interact effectively with co-workers. Understand and follow posted work rules and procedures Ability to relate well to others within the Patient Navigation Program. Highly motivated self-starter, with a high energy level and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Well organized, ability to meet deadlines, detail oriented; possess good judgment and common sense. Demonstrate a high level of cross-cultural sensitivity

Incumbent must have experience with delivering health education about cervical cancer prevention. Experience delivering health education about cervical cancer prevention in Spanish is highly preferred.
