Under general supervision accurately preadmits, preregisters, admits and registers patients with all necessary forms required by other departments for purposes of treatment, creation of the Medical Record and billing. Gathering all necessary socio economic information, verifies, confirms insurance benefits and precertification requirements needed to allow Lakeland HealthCare to provide prompt, courteous service and to be reimbursed for providing said service. Collects cash and issues receipts for services. Performs related clerical duties such as answering telephone requests, maintaining department files and preparing daily productivity reports. Acts as transport when required, escorting patients to nursing units, test sites or surgery holding when volunteers are not available.
High School Diploma/GED required, additional college courses in business, healthcare, medical terminology, ICD Coding preferred. Minimum of one year customer service experience required. Customer service experience in healthcare preferred. Basic computer skills required. Strong typing skills preferred. Strong verbal and written communications skills, as well as ability to pay close attention to detail required. Must have strong interpersonal skills necessary to represent Lakeland HealthCare. Must be flexible and adapt easily to constant interruptions. Must be able to exercise independent judgment and take initiative in order to resolve issues in a timely manner. Position requires a minimum of one month intensive training, followed by a minimum of five months of closely supervised training.
Must be able to work every other weekend and must be available for training Mon-Fri 8AM-4:30PM for up to the first 6 weeks of the position (some flexibility available).
