Advertised Summary Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Director for Patient Services, the Patient Services Assistant supports the daily operation of the medical practice groups in Medical Services. The incumbent serves as the primary customer service interface for patients who come to Medical Services for services. The Patient Services Assistant will perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks such as central telephone reception, reception and appointment scheduling. Other responsibilities include providing patients with instructions on visit process, and responding to non-medical questions and routine patients questions regarding health insurance benefits and enrollment eligibility; providing students, visitors and staff with direction and information on Medical Services procedures in addition to other services provided throughout Columbia Health. During the academic sessions - the work schedule varies. Some Saturdays required. Schedule during the summer and spring recess is 9am - 5pm

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

High School diploma and equivalent required. Minimum of two years' experience in health care or related field. Essential are strong customer service, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Must demonstrate ability to exercise appropriate judgment regarding scheduling of appointments, patients' confidential health information and management of student flow through the service. Proven ability to effectively deal with a high volume of patient contact both in person and via telephone. Must be computer literate.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous health care experience preferred. Familiarity with electronic medical record and scheduling system strongly preferred. Experience working with college students, interest in higher educational setting.
