SUMMARY OF POSITION|
Protects the city's residents and property and enforces laws and ordinances. Duties include patrolling an assigned area to prevent crime and enforce laws and ordinances; and responding to emergency calls and routine complaints, taking appropriate action.
Reports to: Shift Supervisor/Police Sergeant
Directs: This a non-supervisory position
Other: Works closely with all other city departments and officials, other law enforcement agencies, crime victims, prosecutor's offices and the general public.
1.Patrols an assigned area, by vehicle, bicycle or foot, to prevent crimes and enforce laws and ordinances;
2.Directs traffic, escort vehicles, operates traffic radar monitoring equipment and issues traffic citations;
3.Enforces state laws and local ordinances;
4.Responds to calls for service and takes necessary action.
5.Serves warrants and makes arrests;
6.Investigates criminal activity and traffic accidents;
7.Interviews witnesses, complainants and suspects, and takes written statements;
8.Keeps records of activities and makes reports concerning violations of the law, complaints, accidents, and investigations;
9.Assists in criminal investigations including crime scene investigations, and gathering, collection and preservation of evidence;
10.Appears in court as required;
11.Conducts security checks of businesses and residential areas;
12.Assists in special activities such as community fairs, parades etc. Performs departmental public relations activities as assigned;
13.Attends continuing education workshops and classes to maintain necessary certification and improve job related skills.
14.Maintains on-call status as assigned;
15.Serves as prisoner custodian at detention facility, transporting, releasing and supervising prisoners;
16.Works overtime as necessary; and
17.Performs upkeep and simple maintenance of department vehicles;
18.The Patrol Officer is also expected to carry out other duties assigned by a supervisor or otherwise appropriate.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
This position requires that the employee must be physically able to perform the essential duties discussed above. Examples of required physical abilities include, but are not limited to:
Firing a weapon;
Driving at high speeds;
Physically restraining a person Using a baton;
