Job Description

Job Title: Payroll Clerk
Reports To: Regional Controller
FLSA Status: Non - Exempt
Location: Cheyenne, WY

Summary: Processes payroll for multiple business units, imports labor hours from timecard system, costs payroll and reconciles gross to net reports to system generated journal entry, prints payroll checks and remits direct deposit files to the bank.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Compile payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, and 401k to be withheld, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records.

Keep track of leave time, such as vacation, personal, and sick leave, for employees.

Enter data into computer files, or compute wages and deductions and post to payroll records.

Review wages computed and correct errors to ensure accuracy of payroll.

Report, to the Payroll Administrator, changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, loan payments, 401k and transfers or terminations for each employee to update master payroll records.

Prorate expenses to be debited or credited to each department for cost accounting records.

Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.

Keep records of leave pay and nontaxable wages.

Prepare and issues paychecks.

Provide information to employees and managers on payroll matters and tax issues.

Keep informed about changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process.

Process involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments to the Payroll Administrator.

Process paperwork for new employees to the Payroll Administrator and HR Department.

Prepare and balance period-end reports.

Complete, verify, and process forms and documentation for administration of benefits such as pension plans, unemployment, and medical insurance to the Payroll Administrator and HR Department.

Record and tracks equipment time for entry into computer system.
Completes or ensures completion of Personnel Action Forms for changes to employees (i.e. employment status, job title, wage/salary, etc.). Processes forms to Payroll Administrator and HR Department.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and at least two yearsÂ’ accounting experience, preferably in construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of one year payroll experience for at least 10 employees required. Using a computer-based payroll system(s) required.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Payroll systems and Internet software.

Certificates and Licenses:
Valid driverÂ’s license and clean driving record

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
