Title: Payroll Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt, Administrative Position Purpose â€“ The Payroll Manager is responsible for all aspects of processing payroll and must keep abreast of changing Federal and State regulations and legislation relating to payroll laws.
Essential Job Function â€“ Manage and process weekly disbursement of multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes for 750+ employees, consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws Ensure the processing of new hires, construction seasonal workers, transfers, promotions, and
terminations is accurate and timely Supervise Payroll Assistant(s) Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits, and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations Audit W-4s, payroll balance sheets, YTD earnings, etc. Communicate actively with Operations, HR, and Billing to review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data sharing Partner with HR and benefits in aligning and implementing our payroll and benefits system Ensure systems are set-up and updated to reflect our current employee base, including wages, benefits, sick and vacation leave in line with policies and contracts (union and non-union) Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.)
Education and Work Experience â€“ Prefer 5+ years education/experience managing multi-state payrolls â€“ experience preferred in the construction industry Proficient at MS Office (especially Excel) Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state, and local levels Ability to manage and lead staff to excellent performance Must be a team player Must be highly organized, self-directed, and able to consistently meet deadlines Prior system conversion experience, a plus Ability to interpret union contracts, a plus Aptitude and desire to continually learn and professionally grow within the position Supervise maintenance of payroll-related records in personnel files Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all benefits, payroll, and employee information Regular attendance at the workplace is required Perform other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates
Physical Requirements â€“ Requires the ability to reach, grasp, manipulate objects, perform keyboarding and data input, use a telephone and/or communication equipment, perform light lifting, kneel, squat, and sit for extended periods of time.
