The Payroll Manager works closely with the accounting, human resources and benefits teams. The Payroll Manager is responsible for processing payroll timely and accurately, providing resolution on payroll questions to employees, researching outstanding payroll tax issues, and working with third party payroll processor to resolve issues.

Responsibilities:
Provide prompt, friendly, and efficient customer service to employees who have questions regarding their pay, deductions, or the payroll process

Own the bi-weekly payroll cycle for exempt and non-exempt employees by processing all compensation, including salaries, bonuses, commissions, and equity

Process new hires, terminations, status changes, LOAs, tax changes, deductions, direct deposits, rate changes, retroactive adjustments and special pays

Process all deductions, including flexible spending plans, retirement plans, benefits contributions and garnishments

Work closely with Human Resources to ensure that all employee address, supervisor, department, position, and pay rate changes are made on an accurate and timely basis

Participate in month- and quarter-end close activities, including (but not limited to) preparation of payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations and auditor-required PBC items, schedules, and explanations

Ensure accurate calculations of vacation accruals

File payroll-related regulatory filings

Work with IT and Human Resources departments to ensure integrity of data and system setup. Identify process weaknesses and propose enhancements

Participate in accounting system implementations; QA new payroll-related reports, and participate in payroll-related system upgrades

Ensure Sarbanes Oxley compliance by adhering to internal control requirements, maintaining updated documentation for all payroll related processes and providing recommendations as appropriate

Take an active role in stock administration

Other projects and responsibilities, as needed

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance

Experience working in a publicly-traded, high-tech, high-growth company

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred; American Payroll Association (APA) membership a plus

Requirements:
5-10 years as an owner of full-cycle payroll

Expert knowledge of payroll and payroll tax rules and regulations in US

Expert knowledge of ADP Workforce Now

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel

Experience with financial accounting software that is integrated with ADP; Netsuite and Concur experience preferred, multi-state payroll experience a plus

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; excellent customer service and problem solving skills

Knowledge of GAAP and payroll accounting principles

Ability to thrive in a fast-growing environment where change is the norm; strong multi-tasking skills, and flexibility to switch from one project to the next quickly

Ability to understand employee payroll issues and to communicate solutions effectively, professionally, and respectfully

Strong organization skills
