The Seattle Police Department is actively recruiting a Payroll Supervisor. You will supervise the operation, modification and administration of the department’s payroll, timekeeping and labor cost distribution and reporting system. Supervise two accounting technicians responsible for processing daily and bi-weekly departmental payroll timesheets; including responsibility for auditing, coding, inputting, and error correction. This position is responsible for the proper application of ordinances, collective bargaining contract provisions and departmental, City and federal policies relating to compensation administration covering a diversity of represented and non-represented employees. You will approve scheduling of the payroll and labor distribution systems which interface with the department’s cost, general ledger and budget systems, and with the financial and human resources management system for the City of Seattle. Review, approve and provide recommendations to management on proposed department policies and procedures affecting payroll and employee reimbursement. Responsible for managing retroactive employee payments and training employees on payroll system. Use judgment to make sound and potentially costly decisions in the interpretation of continually changing collective bargaining agreements, precedents, policies and regulatory controls.
Required Qualifications: Three years of experience involving finance-related responsibilities and either the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Public or Personnel Administration, Business Administration, or related field, or additional qualifying experience. Desired Qualifications: *Supervisory experience. *Excellent communication skills. * Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software, specifically Excel and Access. *Experience working with a bi-weekly payroll processing system. * Ability to communicate and work effectively within a multicultural workforce serving a diverse customer base. * Experience with a public organization of similar size and scope including HRIS, PeopleSoft / Summit, Executive Management Reporting System.
