Performance Improvement Specialist (Nurse)

The PI Specialist is responsible for assessment, planning,
implementation and evaluation of performance improvement activities.
He/she coordinates all performance improvement activities to ensure that
the goals are congruent with those of the Medical Center's Performance
Improvement Program. Position may entail other duties as assigned.
Incumbent demonstrates expertise in the development and implementation of
PI programs for the management of specific work processes. He/She will
assess and evaluate current clinical practice to determine appropriate PI
programs. The PI Specialist assists in the planning, organization, and
implementation of PI programs that address improvement opportunities with
consideration for the age-specific care needs of patient population
served. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of
quality improvement in Patient Services Demonstrates active involvement in
developing purposes, goals and objectives for PI that are congruent with
the philosophy of Patient Services and the VA mission. Incumbent
participates in interdisciplinary groups and establishes relationships
with professional and/ or other health-related groups within the community
and promotes cost-effective use of resources and safety of care delivery.
Must be a permanent employee of the Northport VAMC
Full range of duties as a Performance Improvement Specialsit at the Northport VA Medical Center.
(1) Registration: Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as
a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of
the US or in the District of Columbia.
(2) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited
program (NLNAC/CCNE) AND two-three years successful nursing experience OR
Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing and bachelors degree in a related
field and 2-3 years successful nursing experience OR Master's degree in
nursing or related field with BNS (or bachelor's degree in a related
field) and 1-2 years of successful nursing experience OR Doctoral degree
in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral
degree in related field.
(3) Work experience on quality improvement projects and team. Broad
understanding of the TQI and CQI process.
Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of skill in: interpersonal
relations, communications, self-direction, critical analysis and problem
resolution. Computer skills a plus.
