Formed by the merger of Arden Hill Hospital and Horton Medical Center, Orange Regional is licensed for 383 beds and employs over 2,500 healthcare professionals including over 600 doctors. Orange Regional Medical Center has consolidated two existing campuses onto a single site in Middletown, New York. This completed facility is the first new freestanding hospital built in the State of New York since 1989 and is the largest medical center between the Tappan Zee Bridge and Albany.
In collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals the pharmacist is directly and indirectly involved in the care of the patient with regards to the prescribing, preparation, dispensing, administering and monitoring of medications. The pharmacist verifies, reviews, interprets, and processes physician orders, screening them for accuracy, allergies, food-drug interactions, drug-drug interactions, and monitors lab values as needed for potential interactions and for necessary dosing adjustments. The pharmacist also reviews, interprets, and processes patient assessment information, which includes past medical history, current medication history, pregnancy/lactation status, allergies, and any other information pertinent to the care of the patients. As regulatory standards change over time the pharmacist will meet the needs of these new requirements as they become the standard of the profession. Staff pharmacists supervise and direct support personnel. In the absence of a pharmacy manager a staff pharmacist may be required to assume essential responsibilities and perform duties of a pharmacy manager, until a manager is on site or able to assert authority by other means. The staff pharmacist must be able to work independently with minimal direct supervision. The staff pharmacist must be able to work cooperatively with other department staff, management, medical staff and other health-system employees. They must be able to adapt to differing work conditions, changing workload and be able to handle numerous and continuous interruptions. The staff pharmacist must display critical thinking in their decision making processes, be able to adapt to changing priorities and handle emergency situations by displaying excellent judgment and expedited performance. They must be able to communicate effectively (orally and in writing).
B.S. Degree in Pharmacy, B.S. Plus Master, or Pharm. D. required. B.S. Plus Masters or Pharm. D. preferred. Pharmacy Residency preferred.At least one year of previous health-system pharmacy preferredCurrent N.Y.S.
