Performs professional pharmacy services to hospitalized patients and outpatients and provides pharmaceutical products and clinical pharmacy services throughout the region. Pharmacy services are provided under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Director and in accordance with regulatory agencies and requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of at least a full five year course leading to a Bachelor's or higher degree in pharmacy from an approved pharmacy school, completion of one (1) year internship and a current license to practice in the State of Alaska are required.
  • This employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit.
  • The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span (e.g., pediatric/adult/geriatric) and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the assigned unit's policies and procedures.


  • Essential Functions:
  • Develops, implements and maintains records control system.
  • Assists in the storage and preservation of drug stock and equipment and maintains balanced stock control.
  • Acts as consultant to the Clinical Director and Hospital Administrator to determine the scope and nature of the pharmacy service provided.
  • Works closely with key personnel and administrative staff in planning and coordinating the total pharmacy contribution to the facility's patient care program.
  • Recommends revisions or improvements to pharmacy policies and procedures for better delivery of pharmacy services.
  • Advises the medical staff on various prescribing practices. Maintains technical references and keeps medical staff informed on new developments in drug therapy. Does research in response to an individual physician's need.
  • Performs medication reconciliation on all inpatient medication requests and all new outpatient prescriptions.
  • Plans the pharmacy contribution to and participates in the preparation of orientation or refresher training sessions for the medical and nursing staff.
  • Provides pharmaceutical products and clinical pharmacy services to hospitalized patients, outpatients and field health program.
  • Reviews all medical orders before they are administered, or as soon as possible after administration.
  • Provides drug information and educational programs to clinical and supportive units and the residents of the region.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities as required.
  • Maintains and upgrades own continuing education.
  • Assumes partial responsibility as directed of department activities including, but not limited to, quality assurance, controlled drug record keeping, and managing the department in the absence of the director.
  • Observes safety regulations and policies and procedures.
  • Will be an active member of relative committees.
  • Village travel may be required.
