The pharmacist also interprets medication orders, monitors therapy, dispenses and supervises all activities of technical/personnel. Counsels physicians, nurses, and patients on medication related issues such as dosing, compatibility, and adverse reactions while serving as both hospital and patient advocate in promoting safe, rational and economic therapies.
- Education and formal training: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy. Pharmacist license in working state.
- Work experience: One year as a hospital pharmacist with Residency in Hospital Pharmacy preferred.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Knowledge of the legal, regulatory and standard of practice of Pharmacy. Ability to properly execute both horizontal and vertical laminar flow technique, skill in working with computers and software. Extensive ability to integrate knowledge into daily practice, and to handle multiple functions simultaneously (creative problem solving, routine workload, etc.) while retaining ability to calmly communicate effectively. Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)' age. Has ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
