Under the supervision and direction of a staff pharmacist, performs technical tasks involved with the proper storage, distribution, and packaging of drugs, associated record keeping, and patient charging systems.|
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned):
Accurately select, label, and place medications in appropriate patient drawer. Delivers medications and unit dose carts to patient care areas in a timely and efficient manner. Unit dose delivery to automated dispensing technology. Accurately prepares IV's using sterile aseptic technique. Compounding total parenteral nutrition solutions, large-volume intravenous mixtures, Preparing chemotherapeutic agents Assists with management of drug stocking including rotation of stock, maintaining of appropriate levels, and outdate checking. Ensures that drug items are appropriately billed to proper patient or department in a timely manner. Has service plus qualities. Works at maintaining a good working relationship with all patient care personnel and other departments. Triage of telephone/window inquires Assist other pharamcy technicians, assist in training new employees Rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy Prepacking bulk medications Compounding ointments, creams, oral solutions and other medications Preparing prescriptions for outpatients Assist pharmacists in collection of clinical data Perform monthly nursing unit inspections and maintain workload records

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate Certified pharmacy technician Some experience as a hospital based pharmacy technician.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret inpatient, facsimile-transmitted, physician orders forms as well as outpatient prescriptions. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from all internal and external customers to include nurses, physicians, and members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to those requesting such information.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work with specific computer software. Familiarity with medical and scientific terminology. Service Plus skills. Ability to work under stress and in cramped working environment.
