Oversees, maintains, and provides support to current and future pharmacy technology systems, including, but not limited to, Allscripts Sunrise Medication Management, Robot-Rx drug distribution system, McKesson PacPlus Packaging system, AcuDose-Rx automated dispensing cabinets, and Automix parenteral nutrition compounder
Expert on the literature related to the use of pharmacy informatics to meet organizational quality and patient safety goals
Leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of Clinical Decision Support in medication management
Demonstrates independent decision making as appropriate in evaluation of requests for system improvements and determines feasibility of system changes
Works closely with departmental leadership, IT staff, clinicians and pharmacists to clarify needs, prioritize requests, design workflow to fit with electronic systems, execute changes, and facilitate adaptation to the electronic medication management system
Works in collaboration with IT clinical analysts to develop and maintain order sets based on patient safety principles and evidence-based practices
Assures clinical system integrity and operational efficiency
Develops effective reports in electronic medical record to facilitate medication utilization review and clinical outcomes analysis, and to meet quality reporting standards and other departmental needs
Participates in the development and implementation of electronic medical record system across acute and ambulatory care sites
Collects information regarding potential systems enhancement needs, identifies application issues, and works through barriers to achieve results
Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare delivery team and leadership
Participates in the monitoring and evaluation of the Pharmacy system for continuous improvement
Participates in committees, meetings, and task forces as appropriate
Educates and trains Pharmacy staff in the use of electronic medication management systems
Maintains competence by attending staff development in-services and continuing education programs
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy.
Current NY State Pharmacist license and registration required.
Five years of experience as a pharmacist with 3 years of progressive experience in implementation and support of a pharmacy clinical information system.
Pharmacy managerial experience preferred.
