Under direction of the supervisor, manager or technical specialist, performs support functions of the laboratory in phlebotomy, EKG and specimen processing. Utilizes standard venipuncture techniques, collects appropriate blood specimens maintained by correct collection protocol and performs specialized blood collection tests. Adheres to strict standards when labeling blood specimens and provides the required information as well as ensures adequate patient identification with each patient encounter including specimen sorting, computer receipt, centrifugation and specimen aliquoting. Follows all defined protocol for universal blood and body fluid precautions.
High School diploma or G.E.D required. Minimum of 6 months experience and/or successful completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred. Must successfully pass data entry skills test. Must have excellent customer service and data entry skills. Communication skills with emphasis on professional impression and grammatical expression, detail-oriented and ability to handle workload in stress filled environment without producing errors. Must demonstrate the ability to organize, prioritize and manage time.
Note: This position requires a minimum of 2 shifts per pay period to remain competent. It may include alternating weekends and holidays.
