Either of the following will qualify:
1. One year of experience or training in nursing or phlebotomy.
2. One year of experience in a medical laboratory as an assistant or technician, or medical research work that included drawing blood from patients.
College training may be substituted for the required experience or training in either option 1 or 2 on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience provided that six semester hours of each thirty is in any of the following fields: chemistry, biology, or nursing.
Certification or eligibility for certification as a Phlebotomist by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners may be substituted for the year of required experience in either option. Phlebotomist certification requires successful completion of a nationally recognized certification examination for phlebotomists. Acceptable examinations as of 7/96 include AABB, AMT, ASCP, ASPT, IAPS, NAHTR, NCA, NCCT, NHA AND NPA.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Incorporated; the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools; the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
