The Photography Assistant provides support to the photography team by preparing and visually arranging merchandise that needs to be photographed, and by assisting the photographers. Primary responsibilities involve product styling, set preparation, prop purchase and locating/organizing merchandise samples in the studio. The Photography Assistant is responsible for the visual presentation of Kirkland’s merchandise in all photography.

  • Participates in planning for photo shoots (location and studio) to assure samples and visual style are confirmed
  • Works with the Merchandise Coordinator to locate, transport, organize and return merchandise samples for photography to studio or off-site location
  • Assists photographers in setups and tear-downs of sets, lighting systems and camera & grip equipment
  • Styles all photo shoots; styling includes cleaning samples, repairing minor defects, propping and arranging samples in vignettes
  • Assists in silhouette photography and basic color correction for web; includes adjusting levels, color balance and clipping/masking in Adobe Photoshop
  • Is responsible for prop shopping, set decorating and location scouting for the photography team
  • Locates models for photographs, when appropriate
  • Liaises with promotional and other internal personnel as needed to coordinate shots
  • Assists the photographer with photo capture as needed
  • Keeps all studio equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting, props and sets clean, organized, inventoried and maintained on a daily basis

  • Required: 1-2 years photo studio experience as Photography or Production Assistant
  • Preferred: College coursework in Photography, Art, Marketing, Interior Design or related field.
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of experience in commercial product photography and styling
  • Proven use of creativity with an eye for product styling, lighting, and composition
  • Experience with home décor styling and/or Interior Design
  • Proactive self-starter able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while helping to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines
  • Must be deadline-oriented, flexible, resourceful, and have a can-do attitude
  • Must possess superior problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on cleanliness and professionalism
  • Working knowledge of photography equipment and editing software
  • Photography studio experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and image capture in PC environment
  • Some heavy lifting may be required
