Position Summary
Evaluates and treats patients; maintains records and writes reports. Participates in ongoing dissemination of evidence based information through provision of in-services throughout the residency year to clinical staff. Collects and assimilates data for quality improvement. Assists with clinical teaching for entry level physical therapy interns. Performs an in-depth case study.

Position Duties

1.
Evaluates Patients
  • Reviews patient charts and physician order for therapy before initiating treatment in accordance with department policy.
  • Evaluates patient's condition and therapeutic needs by selecting appropriate tests and assessment tools as determined by professional standards.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in assessing for patient equipment.

2.
Patient Treatment
  • Instructs and explains prescribed treatment to parents and/or patients, as needed.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in selection and administration of intervention (modalities or exercise) for specific patient needs.
  • Demonstrates initiative and flexibility by ensuring that all patient care is completed daily.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in implementation of patient equipment.
  • Contacts appropriate agencies and schools for physical therapy services as needed.
  • Directs parents to financial assistance when needed. Arranges for rental/loan equipment as required.
  • Assumes responsibility for and self-assigns proportionate caseload to equal daily RVU expectations determined by the department given sufficient referrals.

3.
Documentation
  • Completes evaluations and progress notes in acceptable format in the established time frames in accordance to departmental policy.
  • Enters appropriate treatment charges accurately by the end of the day.
  • Writes home treatment programs, protocols, letters to referring physicians, school reports and special reports as needed.
  • Provides accurate and thorough documentation for hand-off of care.

4.
Research/adjunct patient care
  • Performs 1 in-depth case study during the course of the residency which meets the criteria established in Residency Case Study Guidelines.
  • Collects and assimilates data for one performance improvement project.
  • Performs an administrative proposal (a potential research project proposal, development/justification of a non-revenue producing staff position, or other administrative project.)

5.
Teaching
  • Provides in-services to clinical staff as defined by the residency check-list.
  • Performs clinical teaching of entry level physical therapy interns as assigned by residency faculty.

Position Qualifications

Education Requirements

Master's degree or equivalent degree Field of Study: Physical Therapy or other related field
Required

Doctoral Degree Field of Study: Physical Therapy or other related field
Preferred

Experience Requirements

2 months experience from a pediatric clinical affiliation. experience
Preferred

Certification/License/Registry Requirements

Physical Therapy License: (AR) Candidate must possess at time of hire

Skill Requirements

Ability to respond to patient alarms immediately.

Ability to effectively communicate and interact with a variety of clients(patients, parents, medical staff, students, and groups) regardless of social/economic backgrounds.
