Responsible for courteously greeting patients, visitors and other clients and providing physical therapy care to patients under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.
Minimum High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
CPR certification within six (6) months of hire required.
Must be trained in patient lifting and positioning techniques upon hire.
Six months experience in a Physical Therapy or Sports/Athletic Department preferred.
Previous experience in an orthopedic outpatient setting, and successful completion of coursework in anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, biology, physical fitness, and psychology preferred.
Able to communicate effectively; must present in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner.
Able to apply the use and care of physical therapy equipment.
Able to apply practical knowledge of physical therapeutic activities.
Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Able to respond quickly and efficiently in emergency situations.
Able to make observations of changes or reactions in patients and accuracy in reporting such observations.
Able to exercise emotional control and conceal natural aversion for certain patient conditions.
Able to apply safe work practices on the job.
Requires ongoing discretion and secure information management; compliance with HIPAA and HITECH regulations.
Assisting with documentation of therapeutic exercises, home exercise programs and modalities in patient’s medical record in accordance with Alaska Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Practice Act guidelines.
Regularly cleaning therapy equipment.
Assists with scheduling, answering phones, faxing and copying as needed.
Updating home exercise programs under direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, assisting with patient scheduling, tracking patient appointments, calling patients to verify future appointments and participate in updating care plans.
Prepares patient and equipment for treatments by positioning patient and assembling equipment necessary for treatment.
Under direct supervision of the Physical Therapist, applies basic modalities per established patient plans of care.
Assists in carrying out various treatment procedures established by the Physical Therapist.
Observes, records and reports to Physical Therapist patient’s condition, reaction and response to treatment.
Assists in supervision of patients with established exercise routines as approved by the Physical Therapist.
Ensures there is an adequate supply of materials available.
Changes linens and cleans and maintains equipment and work area.
Ensures the safety and maintenance of physical areas and equipment used during therapy/treatment.
Assists with supply orders. This includes keeping an inventory of supplies and a record of supplies, vendors, and costs of supplies.
Escort patients to clinic from other hospital locations and assist patients to the patient’s next appointment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
