Provides health care services to patients under the direction, supervision and responsibility of the orthopaedic physician.

Assists in surgery as directed by assigned surgeon

Performs History and Physical, Discharge Summary, and other necessary paperwork on all inpatients

Completes and requests all necessary paperwork/films for surgery (orders, H&P, permit, films, etc.)

Administers all recognized first aid procedures in the event of an emergency

Performs patient History and Physical on patients in clinic

Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures; interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan

Administers injections and aspirations

Performs and assists with digital blocks, hematoma blocks and the use of local anesthetics.

Performs and assists with reductions of fractures and dislocations

Performs and assists with the removal or excision of superficial orthopaedic hardware

Removes sutures/staples as needed

Performs patient evaluation and work up, including history and physical assessment, patient education, and the institution of routine orders, under the supervision of the physician

Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments; Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention

Evaluation of patient status through laboratory parameters, radiological, other diagnostic studies, progress notes and routine orders

Provided follow-up care and services commensurate with experience

Institutes and executes post-operative orders of the supervising physician

Collaborates with physician for care; maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information

Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation

Maintains patient confidentiality

Performs other related duties as needed or assigned by clinic manager

Required Skills

Required Experience

Graduate of a accredited physician assistant educational program

Successful completion of the examination of the National Board for Certification of Physician Assistants

Must hold a valid license issued by the National Board for Certification of Physician Assistants
