-Cast removal and application
Must be comfortable working with pediatric and adult patients.
-Pre- and post- operative care.
-Care of patients in an outpatient and inpatient setting, including surgical assistance.
Takes patient histories and performs physical examinations and obtains patient consent.
1 Documents appropriately all initial histories, physicals and follow-up notes.
1,5 Reports results of all clinical and diagnostic findings to supervising physician and, with him/her, communicates results of medical examination to patients.
1,3,5 Formulates appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans, writes appropriate orders.
1,2,3 Participates in patient care rounds, teaching conferences and appropriate quality improvement meetings.
1,3,8 Performs the following procedures: IV insertion, venous punctures, remove chest tubes, pleurodesis, recannilization of PICC lines with guidewire.
1,3,5 Notifies Attending Physician of any change of patient's status or unexpected events requiring direct physician consultation.
1,3,5 Documents all diagnoses, procedures, treatments, and other relevant information in patient's chart.
1,3 With approval of supervising physician, orders diagnostic and laboratory tests; retrieves results and reports them to supervising physician, then contacts patient (usually by telephone) with instructions based on results.
1,5 Assessment, treatment and patient care responsibilities are delivered with knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
1,6 Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
1,6 Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations.
Graduation from an approved Physician Assistant Program; current NYS PA registration.
Must obtain BCLS and ACLS certification within 6 months of hire and maintain current certification.
Must attain 50 hours/year of CED.
Minimum of 1 year of Orthopedic. experience.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position; knowledge of a second language preferred.
