The Physician Consultant will act as an Implementation Specialist and Expert Clinician for the efficient use of the NextGen ® suite of products. As a consultant the Physician Consultant Executive will evaluate, makes suggestions, trains, and creates documentation to aid clients. The Physician Consultant Executive provides consulting services on a broad range of topics including workflow analysis/optimization, staffing, implementation schedules, change management, budgeting, medical coding, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement. The Physician Consultant Executive may serve as an interim Chief Medical Information Officer for a client site or may support existing physician leaders and other C-level client executives. Skills include project management support, software training, workflow optimization, creation of policies/procedures/governance, and strategic planning.
Represent the company as an expert consultant and as an interim Chief Medical Information Officer (if applicable) for the efficient use of the EHR software by:
Being a key contributor in the development of NextGen consulting solutions to address specific client clinical and medical coding issues with a demonstrable business impact
Partnering with the Sales and Marketing teams to establish clearly differentiated positioning of NextGen’s solutions based on varying client needs
Serve as an intermediary between physicians, the purchasing entity, and the Software and Services Vendor to trouble shoot organizational/software/implementation/training issues
Analyze and independently identify gaps within the Knowledge Base Model software and/or a customer’s data collection needs to suggest and/or make modifications to templates, enhance templates, and recommend the inclusion of clinical rules, guidelines, and/or documents in future releases of the software
Exercise independent judgment to evaluate and determine the appropriate course of action to be taken based on the analysis performed
Identify all possible solutions according to the needs and current workflow of potential and existing customers
Make recommendations as to workflow changes, staffing modifications, and training plans specific for the client’s needs
Provide consulting advice to customers and management during the sales, implementation, and go-live process.
Provide input on short term plans (i.e. action plans) to assist clients in developing a quality improvement plan for using the software
Provide guidance in implementing NextGen software and services in consideration of the client’s specific regulatory, revenue cycle, and quality goals and objectives
Provide onsite advanced-level training for client providers and staff
Provide web-based training sessions for clients
Provide in-person advanced-level training for clients at the NextGen Training Centers
Participate on national committees dealing with such issues as quality improvement, standards, pay for performance, electronic prescribing and other topics as directed
Develop new content for the Knowledge Base Module using evidence based guidelines and standards with collaboration from specialists
Create content for Best Practice white papers, e-learning classes, and web based training classes for physicians
Support Sales and Marketing efforts by serving as a Subject Matter Expert at specialty tradeshows
A minimum of 5 years as an experienced clinician with consulting and/or business/practice leadership utilizing health information technology solutions (EHR)
Clinical experience using an EHR or VA System
The experience, energy and enthusiasm to work alongside a progressive leadership team tackling multiple priorities throughout the organization, and the ability to develop and implement diverse ideas and best practices into a coordinated strategic roadmap.
The ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, as needed, is required (up to 50-60%)
The clinician needs to have an understanding of medical specialty specific workflows
Demonstrated ability to effectively engage account managers and clients alike to facilitate the use of NextGen solutions and services to address the challenges of healthcare delivery, healthcare policy and revenue optimization
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build win-win partnerships across a variety of groups and departments, with a particular focus on understanding how to leverage EHR technology and implementation differentiators
The candidate will have demonstrated superior intellectual capability and will be characterized as energetic and highly self-motivated
The candidate will possess traits that include assertiveness, inspiration/creativity, perceptiveness, and insightfulness
The candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
Must live within a 1 hour drive of a major airport
Must possess a current medical license
A track record of identifying emerging business trends resulting in strategy recommendations to senior management is desired.
Participation in the implementation of an EHR, or VA system for larger clinical groups
Strong public speaking skills
Experience serving as a Physician Champion/Liaison during an EHR implementation
