This position is responsible for reviewing Level II PASARR evaluations and supporting materials and making determinations as to the presence or absence of a serious mental illness and ensuring that those individuals who are applying for entrance to skilled nursing facilities meet the medical necessity criteria for that level of care. This position represents the DMH/DD/SAS as a content expert at hearings based on individual challenge of PASARR determinations. It is also expected that this position reviews the PASSAR evaluative material for quality of care issues which will be utilized in the quality assurance program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
This position requires extensive medical and psychiatric knowledge and experience working with patients with co-morbid physical and behavioral health conditions. Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience with this population. Must have experience treating patients with substance abuse disorders.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board and two years of experience as a Physician Extender; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. . .
