Performs medical history interview of applicant or qualified donors and documents responses. Performs physical examination of donors and potential donors, including blood pressure, review of body systems, and review of urinalysis results; documents results. Explains and obtains informed consents from donors including explanation of the procedure, hazards, and potential adverse reactions; explanation of immunization schedules, dose and antibody response; provides clear opportunity for donor to refuse participation; obtains signature and date certifying informed consent. Handles emergencies by providing routine care; contacting Center Physician for further instructions as needed; contacting emergency medical service/local hospital as needed; and maintaining the emergency medical kit. Reviews test results and approves continued donor suitability. Follows all internal SOPs. Oversees the donor immunization program. This position will be located in Royal Palm, Florida.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with respect to personnel, donor, and center records reviewed during the course of all duties. Ability to maintain a clean and efficient work environment. Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc. Ability to instruct donors, staff, and community regarding plasma donation program and teach donors regarding risks and health issues. Ability to utilize necessary equipment such as otoscope, reflex hammer, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff.
Graduation from a recognized educational program such as nursing, paramedic, or physician assistant, or the equivalent. One to two years experience in the hospital or field care. Experience in a plasma center environment is a plus. Current licensure or certification as required by state law (at least an EMT level certification). Current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
