JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Plant Operator I Reports To: Terminal Operations Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Region: Mountain States Materials Location: Cheyenne, WY Prepared By/Date: Human Resources 2/11/14 Approved By/Date: Mandy Monjaras 2/11/14 Summary: Operates PMA plant to produce various asphalt oils and emulsions; maintains equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Follow verbal and written instructions. Reads incoming paperwork to insure proper materials are being delivered. Hook up super sacks for lifting, load polymer into hopper using crane; climb ladder, cut super sacks. Manually pick up and dump sulfur bags into sulfur hopper (50# bags 12-15 times per shift). Use computer to operate blender for outgoing trucks, and operation of pumps to transfer materials to tanks, for batching. Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges. Operate straight mast and rough terrain forklift to unload and move various materials and equipment. Hook up off load hoses for AC delivery. Trace product and raw material lines to ensure proper transfers. Adjust valves as necessary to load or unload product in tanks and lines. Open and close up to (8”) valves, as necessary, to load, unload and transfer product. Read gauges and adjust valves (6” and 8”) to adjust product mix to meet specifications. Read level gauges to mix different materials at the correct ratios to meet specifications. Climb tank ladders (up to 50’ high) to take tank gauges or service mechanical apparatuses as needed. Check mill head for proper operation before starting shift. Check temperature and PSI of oil heater and adjust as necessary. Open valve and pour product into containers (one quart to five gallons) for samples; carry sample containers to lab as requested. Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication. Perform plant and line maintenance including repair and replacement of valves, motors, bearings, gaskets, shafts, gauges, etc. Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in logbook. Complete production sheets with details such as time, temperature and quantity. Clean facilities by sweeping, shoveling, scrapping spills, etc. Wear PPE as required. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.
