Position is in the Physical Plant Maintenance Department located at the Service Group Complex. Working hours are Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm. Candidate will be expected to work overtime as needed and will be part of a paid on-call rotation. In addition, the candidate will be expected to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as a respirator and fit tested annually.
May also be responsible to acquire certification to test back-flow preventors. May be assigned at a later date to the 3pm-11:30pm work shift, with Friday-Saturday or Sunday-Monday pass days.
Major Responsibilities and/or Classes to be taught
Duties include but are not limited to: performing skilled and semi-skilled activities in routine building maintenance with heavy emphasis in the plumbing trade. Perform routine repair and replacement of old and installation of new equipment according to layouts provided by the maintenance supervisor by cutting, fitting and threading pipe; remove existing pipes and fixtures; repair and adjust water mixers, thermostats and other accessories; locating and unplugging stoppages; solder and braze a variety of metal material and pipe; maintain and operate domestic hot water heating systems including the replacement and repair of circulating pumps. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Ability to use tools, machines, equipment and materials of the trade, ability to perform moderate to heavy labor, working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations for the plumbing trade, knowledge of safety standards and procedures, ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions as well as read and interpret plans, specifications, manuals, and blueprints. Ability to perform the activities of this class with considerable independence when supervision is not available.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships
Reports to the Building Trades Supervisor. May be required to provide supervisory oversite over unskilled support staff.
Four years of full time experience under a journeyman plumber and/or steamfitter which provided training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in plumbing or training gained by the completion of technical courses in plumbing in a school (post high school), institute or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted for the above training and experience on a year-for-year basis.
