Basic Function: Fulfills all duties associated with management, coordination and oversight of a system-wide Point of Care Testing Program laboratory (e.g. testing performed in the clinical area by nurses) including both nursing and laboratory duties needed to support Point of Care Testing. Provides technical consultation & standardizes laboratory policies & procedures for use by clinical staff. Organizes training & orientation of clinical staff of laboratory methods. Coordinates annual competencies of laboratory point of care services & assists w/ compliance & regulatory issues in the clinical areas, as related to laboratory testing. In collaboration w/ Clinical Coordinators, develops, implements, & monitors programs for Point of Care Testing (POCT) in the clinical Areas. Provides consultative services to clinical staff & providers for POCT. Provides regular status reports to Clinical Area Laboratory Directors for POCT.

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Sciences or equivalent. Other Requirements: Must have state approved certification per GA Rule 290-9-8 such as ASCP, AMT, AAB or NCA. 5 years minimum, with emphasis on varied lab duties, 2 years point of care experience

Preferred Requirements

Quality Control and Regulatory experience preferred. Must be computer proficient, especially with word-processing documents and spreadsheets, and the LIS/HIS. Must work well under pressure and in high stress situations. 2 years supervisory/management experience recommended.
