The Virginia Campus Police Act of 1976 authorized the establishment of campus police departments at the public institutions of higher learning. Officers assigned to such departmentâ??s exercise the powers and duties conferred by law upon police officers of cities, towns, and counties. Officers provide comprehensive polices services; patrol by foot, bike and/or car; inspect facilities; investigate complaints, alarms and crimes in progress; generate field contacts, arrest and reports; Provide community policing and customer services; Handles special assignments, investigations, overtime, uniformed, traffic, plain clothes, court, administrative and investigative assignments.

Minimum Qualifications
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact physically and psychologically with a diverse population in a stressful environment. Able to work shifts. Have a valid Virginia driverâ??s license, good driving record (plus points) and a clean criminal record (nationally). High school diploma or GED. Must provide birth certificate, complete a probationary period (1 year) and pass a polygraph and drug test. Must have a good credit history, have successfully completed a DCJS certified Police Academy and hold current DCJS Law Enforcement Certification.
