Responsible for enforcing the protection, safety and welfare of HBU students, employees and visitors and the security of public and personal property.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for traffic control and enforcement of federal and state laws and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Patrols campus and housing area to ensure protection, safety and welfare of students, employees and visitors. Meets with these individuals to discuss such issues when necessary.
  • Enforces state, county and local laws.
  • Develops and maintains schedules of patrol coverage for campus and for events both on and off campus.
  • Performs routine clerical tasks such as researching vehicle registrations and answering telephone calls.
  • Maintains patrol vehicles in proper condition or designates this task to another officer.
  • Acts as first responder for medical, first aid, CPR and hurricane relief.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises hourly employees. The nature or responsibility is of work leadership. Responsible for scheduling and assigning work and for measuring performance. Contributes to decisions regarding hiring, termination and pay determination.

Qualifications: EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED and completion of recognized police academy, one to two years’ prior experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Basic state certification
  • CPR and Emergency Care certification
  • Duty weapon qualification

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the essential duties of the job, the employee is required to regularly work in outside weather conditions and be physically active. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
In exercising these functions the employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds regularly. The employees must be able to see objects up close.
