If you said yes, the Support Services Division of the Urbana Police Department has an excellent opportunity to serve as a Police Services Representative! The successful candidate will have outstanding communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and an eye for detail, as well as strong skills with typing, spelling, and the use of proper grammar.
This position involves public contact in stressful situations and requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills
The work schedule may be second shift (3 p.m. - 11 p.m.), third shift (11 p.m. - 7 a.m.), or a combination thereof.
The ideal candidate will excel at entering, transcribing, and maintaining information in written or electronic form; providing information to others by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person; time management; and active listening. Additionally, applicants should have the ability to work all shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
The front desk is a twenty-four hour a day, seven days-a-week operation that maintains the department's record system and information management system, provides statistical analysis for the department, backup dispatch center, and serves as the primary contact point for public access to the department. This division is staffed with 11 full-time civilian employees and 6.75 (FTE) part-time positions.
Knowledge and abilities typically acquired through graduation from high school/GED plus two years of related work experience or through completion of an associate's degree and one year of related experience. Related experience is work in a setting with frequent interaction with customers or the public;
Knowledge of business English, punctuation, spelling, business math, office practices and procedures, and operation of standard office equipment;
Ability to type accurately and perform data entry on a computer keyboard within the skills standards established by the Civil Service Commission;
Ability to use computer programs and word processing systems;
Ability to transcribe from a Dictaphone or similar media recording device;
Ability to work productively and calmly under stress and in possible emergency situations; and
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Must successfully complete L.E.A.D.S. Certification within one year of employment.
Experience working in a high-volume customer service setting, preferably dispatch.
The successful candidate must be available to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and mandatory overtime and must successfully pass a skills assessment examination as well as an extensive background investigation.

Salary and Benefits
The starting salary for this position has been established by contract at $19.07/hr. to start and increases to $19.36/hr. upon successful completion of 12 month probation + excellent benefits. A full benefits package is associated with this position.
