The Children’s Aid Society (CAS) is seeking a resourceful and creative individual to promote public-sector support for programs, services and policies that benefit children living in poverty – and in particular CAS’ strategic plan: Keeping the Promise. The Policy Analyst reports to the Director of Public Policy and will be responsible for supporting Children’s Aid’s policy agenda; researching public policy and legislative issues; writing policy documents; attending and testifying at public hearings; liaising with coalitions; and managing other projects as they arise.


- Work with the Director of Public Policy to ensure cohesion on all policy matters of interest to CAS
- In collaboration with the Director of Public Policy and CAS leadership, will implement a government relations strategy intended to support Keeping the Promise (CAS’ organizational strategic plan), advocate for legislation and influence policy decisions
- Write statements, testimony, public response, policy documents, and/or recommendations on CAS priorities
- Research and synthesize legislation, policy and budget issues and trends
- Work with the Communications team to generate press opportunities to highlight key CAS policy and legislative initiatives
- Track CAS policy issues, work with Director of Public Policy to develop a timeline for action and facilitate internal response with key CAS content-level experts
- Represent CAS at select events and hearings
- Build and manage relationships with government agencies and elected officials
- Promote support of Keeping the Promise (CAS’ organizational strategic plan)

Required/Desired Qualifications:

- Bachelors Degree required. Policy-related graduate degree or at least three years experience in policy, particularly in education or health and child welfare fields preferred
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Strong research, organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and the initiative to solve and anticipate problems
- Experience in advocacy or government a plus
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus
- Commitment to and passion for CAS’ mission and work
