The Department of Planning and Budget advises the Governor, the Governor's staff, and cabinet secretaries on policy, program, legislative, and budget issues involving state agencies. The department is seeking up to six motivated self-starters with strong analytical, writing, and technical skills to be a part of public policy and performance budget decision-making in Virginia.

Responsibilities include analyzing budget and policy issues and processes, maintaining or compiling large financial and budgetary spreadsheets/databases, assessing state agencies' strategic plans and performance measures, assisting in formulating the executive budget, and analyzing legislative bills and developing fiscal impact statements from that analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

The candidates must be able to: (1) demonstrate use of 2007 Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, Access, and Word; (2) explain and demonstrate researching skills, (3) explain and demonstrate analytical skills; and (4) demonstrate experience with or a comprehensive knowledge of financial, programmatic, and budgetary analysis at the state or local government levels.

The successful candidate must also: (1) show evidence of effective communication skills (verbal and written), (2) and show evidence of managing multiple assignments within critical deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

An undergraduate degree or graduate degree is preferred.
