PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
A sleep trainee develops competency in and performs basic sleep testing procedures and associated interventions. The sleep trainee works under direct supervision of a sleep technician or a sleep technologist. The sleep trainee will complete didactic training alongside a registered sleep technologist (RPSGT/RST) while completing theory education through an accredited A-STEP program either on-line or in the classroom setting. The training will have 18 months to complete the training program and is required to pass the BRPT or AASM registry exam within 2 years of hire date. Upon passing the registry exam the training will be promoted into a registered position.
During training the trainee will be expected to perform routine polysomnography and understand the basic principles of sleep disorders medicine.
The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
High school diploma or GED plus six months of direct patient care experience or one year of postsecondary education.
Previous employment in a healthcare setting preferred.
