The Port Captain is responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operations of the vessels assigned to him/her.
He/She must be aware of the same duties of of other Port Captains so that he/she may overlap and fill in as
necessary. Supervises the captains and crews in the direct operation of the vessels. Assures compliance with
all regulatory agencies, promotes and ascertains M&R program fro each vessel. Conducts surveys and
ispections on a regular basis to ensure follow-through.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct vessel inspections; investigate accidents/incidents and make corrective measures as required
- Plan, schedule and supervise vessel repairs and M&R; review and approve supply requisitions and purchase
materials as needed
- Consult with and supervise Captains in operational matter
- Supervise crewing assignments
- Administer tests (drug/alcohol/respirator/C.B.A Firemans suits, etc.)
- Assist in wirting of policies and procedures and ensuring implementation on the vessels has been completed
- Plan, administer and assure vessel compliance with customers, ABS, USCG, RCP, and regulatory agencies
- Vetting company vessels and hired vessels
- Spill response as required
- Assist with the formulation of the divisions operational budget and ensure expenditures are maintained within
approved budget dollar amounts

Qualifications:
- 5-10 years experience in marine engineering with active sailing experience in a deck or engine capacity
- Motivated, independant, self-starter with hands-on approach to dealing with day-to-day operations that
normally occur with an active Tug & Barge fleet
- EMD, hydraulic and various mechanical systems troubleshooting experience a plus
- Experience with Tank Barge operations including cargo handling and supervision of mechanical and structural
repairs is required
Skills:
- Excellent intrapersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Supervisiory and Leadership Skills
- Ability to multi task
Education / Licensing
- High School Diploma required
- Bacheklors degree in related field and/or equivalent work experience
- Current USCG License preferred but not required
- Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) required
