Job Description

Investment Strategies & Solutions serves as the in-house investment consultants for MetLife’s retirement benefit funding business and is responsible for the selection, monitoring and oversight of third-party and proprietary separate account subadvisors and registered funds which are offered through a wide variety of institutional products. The separate account-based products supported by IS&S span MetLife’s institutional businesses. The Investment Analyst position supports new and existing separate accounts for products offered by these lines of business, including pension plans, 401(k) plans, executive deferred compensation plans, and funding for other post-retirement benefit plans.
Principal Responsibilities
Act as liaison between MetLife and assigned asset managers. Conduct ongoing due diligence and monitoring for each subadvisor or fund manager retained. Analyze quantitative and qualitative information each month/quarter and on an ad hoc basis from assigned subadvisors and identify areas of concern. Document findings in written reports.
Coordinate activities involving changes to separate account line-ups and communicate with LOB partners. Maintain strong knowledge and expertise of institutional product line to ensure high quality analysis to senior management.
Manage individual assignments for business- and client-related requests.
Support senior staff in monitoring and providing investment oversight and evaluating investment activities in assigned separate accounts and identifying areas of concern. Assist in the manager search and selection process as part of the ongoing monitoring process and in support of new business development.
Effectively communicate and promote investment philosophy to internal constituents. Support sales and service activities for client-facing associates.
Use investment related software as a tool in the evaluation of subadvisors and in the crafting of hiring recommendations.
Prepare formal quarterly reporting for internal senior executive governance body.
Ensure the delivery of prompt and accurate performance reporting and other investment-related communications for client, consultant and wholesaler requests.
Oversee and complete special requests as necessary (e.g., vendor assessments, project management).

Job Requirements

5-10 years of relevant investment-related experience, including knowledge of sub-advised institutional separate account and registered fund business.
Bachelor’s degree in applicable business-related field.
Strong written/oral communication, organizational and prioritization skills.
Ability to travel, approximately 25% of the time, including some overnight travel.
MBA degree.
Proficiency with investment analytical tools such as Bloomberg, g/Ibbotson, FactSet and eVestment Alliance.
Experience in an investment consulting role.
Experience with broad array of asset managers, investment strategies and styles.
Strong project management, analytical and research skills.
Working knowledge of qualified, nonqualified and welfare benefit funding products.
CFA, CAIA or CIMA designations.
