The successful candidate will join the research lab of Dr. Lucia Schuger and participate in ongoing research of P311, a 8 kDa protein abundant in vascular and visceral smooth muscle, myofibroblasts, and brain. P311 does not belong to any known protein family and lacks specific motifs that may suggest function. Dr. Schuger’s team determined that P311 falls into the category of intrinsically unstructured proteins, and therefore requires binding to other protein(s) to acquire its active conformation. The investigators found that P311 regulates the level and activity of all three TGF -βs. Through them, P311 modulates vascular homeostasis, blood pressure, and normal and pathological fibrosis.

The applicant’s main project will be to define the role of P311 in pathological skin and lung fibrosis in mice and humans.

Applicants should have no more than 4 years of post-doctoral experience and should be experienced in basic biochemistry and molecular biology techniques.Evidence of experience should be provided in the form of publications, manuscripts in preparation, or a thesis. This documentation should also demonstrate the candidate’s proficiency in preparing figures and writing manuscripts.

Candidates should be able to work independently in the design of experiments and interpretation of results, keep current with relevant literature, complete studies in a timely fashion and prepare manuscripts for publication, therefore, command of English and critical thinking skills are required.

Qualified applicants must provide a current CV, evidence of experience as mentioned above, and the full names, telephone/fax numbers and email addresses of three investigators who can provide academic references.
