The mission of the Alaska Earthquake Information Center (AEIC) is to provide timely and accurate earthquake information and assistance to the public, research community and government agencies. AEIC operates an advanced fully digital seismic network comprised of about 200 sites and reports on 30,000 earthquakes each year. AEIC is a part of the larger Seismology group at the Geophysical Institute, at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) that includes a component of the Alaska Volcano Observatory, the Crustal Deformation Geodesy group, and a vigorous graduate program.

Our long-term success depends on a forward-looking, diverse workforce. The successful candidate will be part of a team that includes research-oriented faculty, computer specialists, seismologists, geodesists, data analysts and field technicians. We work in partnership with numerous research institutions and state and federal agencies.

We seek to fill position of Postdoctoral fellow: The research focus of this position is the development of real-time system for characterization of earthquake sources based on seismic and GPS observations. The successful candidate will have advanced programming skills, good understanding of real-time seismic and/or GPS data acquisition systems, and strong knowledge of computational and theoretical seismology and/or geodesy. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to participate in this ongoing project. As part of the larger organization, this position includes opportunities for field work across Alaska as well as the ability to contribute to the scientific response to significant earthquakes. This is a 2-year appointment with a possibility of extension.
