The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt, located in Baltimore, Maryland, offers comprehensive, individualized care for children, adolescents and adults with serious eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and compulsive overeating. The Center, which has been a national leader in evidenced-based treatment since 1989, provides highly specialized individual, group, family, occupational, art and nutritional therapies and offers a full continuum of care that is not found anywhere else in the region.

A 22-bed unit in a specially designed and elegantly appointed setting for patients with complex eating disorders. A team of Board Certified Psychiatrists coordinate a multi-disciplinary team of experienced professionals including nurses, licensed clinical social workers, registered dieticians, expressive arts therapists and psychologists. Medical problems are closely monitored by a panel of carefully selected consulting specialists.

The Postdoctoral fellow, under close supervision as part of the training curriculum, but frequently requiring the use of independent judgment, provides direct psychological services to assigned specialized individual patients and groups. Interviews patients to obtain psychological history, completes written psychological assessments, participates in treatment planning, and conducts individual and group therapy using the therapeutic framework appropriate to the patient’s needs and the program’s treatment philosophy (e.g., psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy). Monitors patients’ progress. Works closely with assigned supervisor to improve clinical skill; attends supervision sessions; and responds constructively to clinical feedback and supervision. Depending on program requirements, may be responsible for completing all discharge summaries for patients for whom assigned as primary therapist. Communicates effectively with the multi-disciplinary treatment team. Maintains patient documentation in accordance with program and Health System requirements. Administers and scores psychological tests. Provides specialized consultation and assessments. Work requires knowledge of psychodynamic, behavioral, and cognitive therapies; general psychological principles; psychiatric terminology - acquired through completion of Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree program from a school of psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), which included supervised practicum, internships, field or laboratory training appropriate to the practice of psychology. Employee will be required to demonstrate the core competencies (as defined on the competency assessment form) required for working with child/adolescent and/or adult patient population (depending on specific patient assignment).
